Latvia: official electronic address (e-adrese) mandatory for all legal entities
Date note: In force since 2023-01-01 under the Oficiālās elektroniskās adreses likums for all legal entities in Latvia's registers (companies, associations, foundations, trade unions, etc.). Still relevant for 2026-2028: every newly registered entity must activate one immediately, adoption/usage is reported by DVI as still well below 100%, and automatic e-address assignment for newly registered entities is planned (not yet in force) by end of 2026.
What changes
All Latvia-registered legal entities must have an activated official electronic mailbox (e-adrese) on the Latvija.gov.lv portal, the mandatory channel for correspondence with state and municipal institutions. Official notices are deemed delivered via e-adrese after a statutory period regardless of whether anyone checks it.
Who is affected
Every company, association, foundation and other legal entity registered in Latvia, including newly formed ones — this covers essentially all businesses.
Sizes: micro, small, medium, large · Sectors: All sectors
What to do
Activate and regularly check the e-adrese for your legal entity via latvija.gov.lv, assign someone to monitor it (statutory deadlines run from delivery there, not from when it's read), and update access when changing accountants or administrators.
