PPWR: minimum recycled content in plastic packaging and bans on certain single-use formats

1212 days from today

What changes

Plastic packaging must contain minimum shares of post-consumer recycled plastic (10-35% depending on type), all packaging must be recyclable by design, and listed single-use formats (e.g. small hotel toiletries, plastic packaging for unprocessed fruit and vegetables under 1.5 kg, single-portion condiment sachets in HoReCa) are prohibited.

Who is affected

Producers and importers of plastic-packaged goods, hospitality businesses, food retailers and e-commerce sellers.

Sizes: micro, small, medium, large · Sectors: E-commerce, Retail, Manufacturing, Hospitality / tourism, Agriculture / food · Applies if: We sell to consumers (B2C); We sell online; We import goods into the EU

What to do

Ask packaging suppliers for recycled-content certificates and recyclability grades now; redesign or switch formats that will be banned. Build packaging data (weight, material, recycled share) into your product master data for future reporting.
